1. Please introduce yourself and your background
- Chris Worsey, Founder and CEO of SportsIcon. Previously exited two startups.
2. What is SportsIcon?
- SportsIcon is transforming the fan and athlete relationship.
- Our mission is to connect you with your favourite sporting heroes through NFTs. We work with the best clubs, organisations and sportspeople of all time to tell their highs, lows and skills through elite storytelling NFTs.
3. Currently Lion Club and your other NFTs are based on Ethereum, when do you plan to make the transition to Flow? And why Flow vs. SOL, BSC etc?
- 16th October is when our platform launches on Flow!
- There are many great blockchains, but there are many compelling reasons why we have gone with Flow.
- Flow believes that gaming is going to be massive to the adoption of NFTs and we agree.
- As such, Flow is a fast, decentralised, and developer-friendly blockchain, designed as the foundation for a new generation of games, dapps, and the digital assets that power them.
- Flow is not only developer-friendly, it's user friendly as well. Flow is a blockchain designed from the ground up for mainstream adoption and is the only blockchain that builds usability improvements into the protocol layer. Having simple and slick UX (user experience) and UI (user interface) for every single web3 offering is so important for mass adoption and Flow are brilliant at this. These are just some of the reasons why we are working with Flow.
4. How do you intend to provide utility for the holders of your NFTs?
- At SportsIcon, we think of ourselves as marathon runners - we are here for the long run. As such as we provide immediate value to our NFT holders like unprecedented access both digitally through AMAs, special speaker series, unique NFT airdrops, exclusive live calls with athletes, ultra HD cinematic quality exclusive content and much more.
- Additionally, we provide in-person access to the SportsIcon team which deepens the trust and relationship with the community, in addition to cool experiences such as sporting events like Knicks vs Raptors at Madison Square Gardens, England football matches at Wembley and very soon - some exclusive recreational access to your favourite athletes.
- So not only do we provide instant short term value for our community, this value, the utility will be provided for many more years to come.
5. How do you see the NFT market shaping up in the coming years, and where do you see Flow and SportsIcon positioning in this?
- I think that all the major brands in the world will enter sooner rather than later. This includes all the major organisations and personal brands such as influencers and celebrities. We will see more innovation and creativity within the space with other important industries like real estate, medicine and education.
- Flow will continue to rise in popularity for many of these organisations looking to build a user-friendly NFT offering on an elite blockchain whilst offering the global collectors the coolest and most entertaining products.
- SportsIcon will continue to strive to connect fans with their favourite sports stars. We aim to provide the best in-person and digital experiences for the fan and athlete relationship. We aren't partial and want to include luminaries from all the most prominent sports and the up-and-coming sports as well.
6. What are some of the major milestones you have hit so far and why are they important?
- We have received substantial seven-figure investment from some of the biggest names in the NFT and Tech world like Roham Gharegozlou (Founder of Dapperlabs, NBA Top Shot and FLOW), Andrew Masanto (Co-founder Hedera Hashgraph), Mike Edwards (Founder ARGO Blockchain) and notable cultural icons such as Nas (Tech Investor & Rap Legend), Chad Hurley (Founder of YouTube), Andrew Bogut (NBA Champion with Golden State Warriors) and many more.
- The Lion Club also sold out, making $1.6 Million in 8 hours. SportsIcon have worked with sporting legends such as Roberto Carlos and Gigi Buffonand we have many more icons to come which is both epic for our NFT holders and NFT space in general as we bring more exposure to the industry.
7. How has your community grown since you first launched?
- Our community is everything. No NFT project can be a real success without one. We have a thriving Discord community led by our Lion Club NFT holders. Discord is where we have so many special people willing to support newcomers, helping them to feel welcome, answer any questions and spread positivity and optimism throughout the channels. We are grateful to them and their supports follows us across our social media channels, in particular, Twitter where they are so active and engaging. Our community is the glue for the whole company and if we look holistically, the community are the glue for the whole NFT space.
8. Any exciting news you’d like to announce here today?
- We have just announced our partnerships with Flow, NFL Legend - Mike Vick, Mexican football giants Pumas and a partnership with CMLL (Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre) the home of the oldest, most enthralling and best wrestling in the world.
- So we will have some new very exciting NFTs coming soon, and they will be released on our new platform which is powered by the Flow Blockchain. There are also more amazing announcements to come very very soon. Stay tuned to all of our social media channels for the announcements.
